Mercure Katowice City Center to open in 2020

Orbis signs a management agreement with UBM Development AG

Orbis Hotel Group, strategic partner in Eastern Europe of AccorHotels - world-leading
travel & lifestyle group – signed a conditional management agreement for Mercure hotel with Europe’s leading hotel developer, UBM Development AG.

“Consequently and in accordance with Orbis strategy we accelerate AccorHotels network development in Poland and in the whole Eastern Europe region. Through managing hotels we are providing our partners with professional know-how. We’re proud that UBM Development – the European leading hotel developer, has chosen Orbis to manage this definitely prime location property in Katowice. We believe that it’s only the beginning of a longer and wider cooperation.” - commented Gilles Clavie, President of the Management Board & CEO of Orbis.

The newly built hotel will offer 268 comfortable rooms, the Winestone restaurant,
conference facilities, fitness area and underground parking. The hotel will be built in green certification LEED NC. Mercure Katowice City Center will be located at very heart of Katowice, at Młyńska Street – next to the Galeria Katowicka shopping center.

“This location is truly unique – close to the main railway station and to Galeria Katowice. We do not hide that we have an ambition to make out of this hotel the place to be in Katowice. We’ve chosen Mercure brand for its flexibility and possibility to create a lifestyle hotel like Mercure Kraków Stare Miasto. Katowice – which is becoming the leading metropolis in Southern Poland, offering not only great business opportunities, but being also an inspiring weekend gateway and an excellent art scene, deserves an upper-midscale address.” – said Rudolf Grossmayer, Managing Director of UBM Development AG.

Very well connected with the rest of Europe – airports, train station and 2 connecting
motorways, Katowice – with its almost 300 000 inhabitants, and its agglomeration has
become home to internationally renowned festivals such as Rawa Blues, the preferred
address for sport events such as Intel Extreme Masters or WTA Open Katowice, the venue of European Economic Congress – the largest business event in this part of Europe, and a perfect location for BPO, shared services centers, IT and R&D centers.

“After Novotel and ibis Budget, Mercure will be the third AccorHotels address in Katowice. Because of the influx of global corporations that have decided to make their investments here, this city has an enormous potential. Katowice agglomeration has gone through major changes and we can definitely expect further development of hospitality industry in the coming years.” – adds Jacek Stasikowski, Director of Development for Poland.

The hotel, expected to open by the end of 2020, will join Mercure, AccorHotel’s
internationally well-known and recognized midscale brand, offering hotels that are all
different and locally inspired in over 770 properties in 61 countries across the world. Mercure is the only midscale hotel brand that combines the strength of an international network with a strong quality commitment and the warm experience of hotels that are rooted in their local community.
